Homeless Health Services
You Are Not Alone
The Center reaches out to adults who have not been effectively engaged or retained in outpatient treatment. If these needs are unmet, there will be increasingly high rates of chronic, disabling, and/or life-threatening health conditions (hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, liver disease). Many homeless individuals do not assign importance to preventive care and only seek dental services when they are in pain. The Center is working hard to address the woeful gap in oral health care services amongst its homeless population.
“Homelessness inevitably causes serious health problems. Illnesses that are closely associated with poverty - tuberculosis, AIDS, malnutrition, severe dental problems - devastate the homeless population.
Health problems that exist quietly at other income levels - alcoholism, mental illnesses, diabetes, hypertension, physical disabilities - are prominent on the streets. Human beings without shelter fall prey to parasites, frostbite, infections and violence.”
